I'd like to thank Andrew for most of the photos (his bike appears in many of them), and my brother for the first photo(from 1986), and the last couple of photos of the bridge in service that appear in the clip. The only photo I took in this clip was the very last one of the bridge covered in snow at night!
The Bailey Bridge was built on the site of a demolished railway bridge from a closed railway line from Irvine to Kilmarnock. Intended as a temporary way of crossing the River Irvine, it was in service from 1971 until 2009. It outlived its intended useful life by many years!
The new bridge was renamed "Fullertoun Arches" as a result of a competition and opened by a group of school children, but all of the locals still refer to it as "the New Bailey Bridge".
The old Bailey Bridge was something of a landmark, and thankfully wasn't scrapped. The local papers reported it as being sent down to England to assist in areas of severe flooding due to heavy rain at that time.
Nice one......and what idiot left their bike in the middle of the road hahaha

@Wils10101980 Andrew, the bloke who took most of the photos left his bike there, to prove he'd been there before the bridge had been opened ;-)
