I learned this song from the great Mike Dowling. You can find it on his excellent cd called "Blue Fandango".
Mike is one of the best pickers around and has plenty of fine cd's; visit his website at www.mikedowling.com

If you're interested in learning how to play this song then get Mike's dvd called "Bottleneck Blues and Beyond 2"
It's available at Homespun Tapes.

This song is special in two ways.
First the guitar is tuned to open D but the song is played in the key of G. This means that the 5th fret is your homebase.
Secondly, it uses unusual behind the slide fretting. You'll see that I lift up the slide towards my face so that the first string is not fretted by the slide anymore and thus can be fretted by my index finger. Why didn't I think of that...

  • escellent(had a beer). just out of curiosity, how high id the action on that guitar? I play my old houndog, gibson mostly with a brass tube. I see you have a glass one and you can use yoour fingers real good. not that I could do it like you on any instrument, I can just barely punch out a few notes. my action is a little high--what gibson sent out. not that I'm going to change it but above the 5th fret I can scarcely do it.

  • the action on that guitar is about 4mm at the 12th fret.

  • Just Fantastic !!!

  • I agree with you to 100% what you say about Mike Dowling (maybe I will have to buy Part 2 of this DVD too). He is a wonderful player AND teacher.

I never checked out some stuff like this, sounds somewhere between rag and Hawaiian, wonderful piece and your playing is just great (as always)!

  • Daddy, another great piece of music/video. I ordered your CD and have enjoyed it immensely (this commentary is unsolicited, of course). Thanks for posting.

  • Absolutely fan-bloody-tastic! Many thanks for sharing this.

  • Awesome, Daddy...truly great stuff here. Love to watch you play and a slide always sounds so right to my ear. Thanks for a great listen!
