I've read several magazine articles about keeping red tail sharks.
Summarized:
- Red tail sharks aren't as agressive as their evil reputation.
- It's a matter of keeping them under the right condition: A maximum number of five fish can be kept in a big tank (minimum length: 150cm (58inch) with a own territory for each fish
My three red tailed black sharks are now living several months together. I've never noticed more than this "display behaviour". They are all doing fine in their territory.

The thing is: One RTBS has a territory of about (at least) 25 gallon (100 liter). That means, that one shark definitly need this space for its own. (That also means: very clear boundarys with big plants, driftwood, or stones and hiding places)
The other thing is, if you keep more than one redtail in a tank, its "aggressions" concentrate on the redtails in the tank and other species will be spared from them.

So, the conclusion is:
- One redtail in a small tank will have the result, that it might kill all its tankmates
- A group of redtails in a small tank will have the result, that they fight till the strongest one survives and after that this one will terrorize the other fish.

Now the only way to keep those fish peacefully in a community tank is:
A big tank, with enough room for each fish, and a group of redtailed black sharks.

In every other way you're asking for very big trouble and you'll not be happy with your decision to buy some.(I've so much feedback on my videos that prove this.)

  • @12898warrior

The two striped ones on the left? They are Tiger barbs (Puntius tetrazona).

  • Hey, people should watch my videos to see what red tail black sharks can live with and the size of the tank also

  • @9akk00

But your RTBS is still a very small baby almost as big as a cory cat. Think about what a 6 inches long specimen would act like.

  • Awesome piece of driftwood, i love the pieces you get with the little crevices for the fish to hide in, makes it really interesting to watch :D

  • @xDANx24x

Yeah that's right. It took 3 month till it was saturated with water and sunk by itself.^^

  • could you reveal the secret behind keeping the black shark black? :D mine are either gray or grayish black, but yours are pure black and I love them!

  • I would not put tetra with those aggressive fishes. They will kill tetras (neons) and goldfish, and guppies

  • you shouldnt have three together

  • AMAZING TANK!!! I love that piece of driftwood with all of it's little hiding places! What type of wood is that?

I also agree with your comment of the territories of more than one Red-Tail Shark. I currently have 3 of them, and 2 Rainbow Sharks in a 75 gallon tank (one of which is an Albino Rainbow Shark).

I see some "chase and run" behaviors, but nothing too aggressive so far. One exception is my video titled "SHARK FIGHT". View it, if you get a chance. It's why I need some driftwood.

  • @12898warrior did you mean the pearl gourami?

  • i taught these sharks attack and harass other fish ??!

  • i wanted to ask i have this 10gal and a pictus catfish and a redtail shark but the tank is divided in half by a a divider i'm waiting untill they get big so i can get a 72 gal or a 100 will a 72 gallon with a divider down the middle be enough for these two fish? please some one reply? :I
