Not too many guys write and then record a song for their girlfriend and have the recording make the Top 10 on the pop charts, but that's the case in this instance. Paul Anka wrote it for his then girlfriend, Annette Funicello, and "Puppy Love" peaked at #2 on the charts during March of 1960.
I was 17 in 1960 but I never had a girl friend that looked like Annette but then again I didn't look or sing like Paul Anka.

I had no idea this song was written for Annette "Full of Jello" (that's what I used to call her). I remember when Annette was on "The Mickey Mouse Club." Damn, I'm old. :o)
