Lego Mech

Watch in High Quality if you can!

Obviously this is nothing too special. This is just a simple stopmotion animation I made using MLCad to build a Lego recreation of a Lego model I designed/built based off of mechs in games such as Mechwarrior 2. Always had a fascination with mechs, spaceships and legos as a kid. This is a piece-by-piece, color-by-color exact representation of a Lego mech I built when I was younger.

My friend Matt helped by writing a bash script for POV-Ray to make a render for every frame while rotating 360 degrees on each axis (instead of painstakingly doing it all manually.) There's one render for every degree of rotation, so 360 renders for a full rotation on a single axis. I used iStopmotion to arrange the individual renders into a stopmotion film.

This is my first ever animation/stopmotion/mlcad render/youtube video. I just wanted to preserve my Lego mech and share it with friends, obviously nothing fancy, and a bit crude.

The actual Lego model has fully extendable shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and foot joints. The jump jets on the back can independently pivot between facing upwards or downwards or anywhere in the middle. The torso fully rotates 360 degrees and the missile array mounted on top can tilt. It's built mainly with common older pieces as that's all I had to work with back when I built it (the newest set in my collection dates back roughly 13 years.) Now they have all sorts of great pieces that would make for a better looking mech.
