I was there, in the front row. The most beautiful, perfect, true thing I had ever seen. Addicted and in love from day 1. Changed my life.

I know, their only US gold record was the 1988 best-of "RamonesMania". Like almost all of their records, the debut peaked below 100 on Billboard. Punk was commercially big in England though, and the Ramones both helped inspire that, and benefited from it (I think "baby I love you" from record 5 peaked at #8 over there). I was also thinking of how impactful the first record was. Punk isn't similarly "big" now, you only get faded memories of it in pop songs by the likes of Green Day and stuff.

To be fair the first album flopped then too, it didn't even go Gold, but who gives a shit? Record sales mean nothing

They were at their peak when this show took place. Great memories, I'm sure.

Or, most of the kids with Ramones shirts wear it because it's on sale at your local Hot Topic, or they'll wear it to impress their freinds.

are you saying "this music" (punk?) was bigger then or now? it was bigger then. green day has sold millions of albums, but that's watered down stuff. sex pistols had #1 singles in england then, front page headlines too. you see the response at this ramones gig. it was underground here in the states b/c it was too threatening for the mainstream, but that hasn't really changed. more kids know like two ramones now songs b/c of like guitar hero, but if the first album came out today it would flop.
