Southern Railway worker Joe Black is enjoying an evening at home that is interrupted by a Luftwaffe raid on the marshalling yards. A train catches fire and it is up to Joe and his co-workers to save the day. Southern Railway "N class" steam locomotive number 1414 is used to help move the wagons.

  • it shows that shunters were almost like gymnasts when they had to brake wagons

  • Dont forget your tin hat (fantastic)

  • @PenzancePete Thanks for the correction....

  • @SteffanLlwyd That's not fly shunting, it's loose shunting.

  • Fly Shunting was dangerous enough in the first place!

  • @JollyRodders They won't build it if the locals have their say - the site is now a nature reserve.

  • at 5:54 he diesnt actually turn the wheel LOL

  • It’s a bit hammy, but I should think it’s about the only real footage of a G16 in action, especially in Southern livery. This was filmed at the old, and long gone, Feltham marshalling yards closed in 1969. The engine shed shown in this film took over from the nearby Strawberry Hill shed...{Built in 1897}...in 1922/3. Strawberry Hill is still in use as an electric train depot. Feltham Yard is overgrown. However there are moves to build a new train depot on the site.
