As a sucessful self publisher, I agree with everything you are saying here. Often when I try to say the same things, people say these things do not matter, that I am too nitpicking, that readers do not care. Huh.

How's desktop publishing there in Japan? I imagine there's a lot more to work with--3 texts, different styles (serifs and sans-serifs), orientation of text.
