Edison Blue Amberol 3220 [Take 2, Mould 20]. "Liberty Bell March" (John Philip Sousa) New York Military Band. Year of first release: 1917. Played on my Amberola 50.

From The EDISON BLUE AMBEROL RECORDS July 1917 circular
"Liberty Bell March, Sousa
New York Military Band No. 3220

One of Sousa's first nation-wide successes. If you are of the younger generation, you may not be familiar with it. In that event just 'Ask Dad, he knows.'"

This piece was brought to a new audience in the 1970's due to its use as the theme for Monty Python's Flying Circus.

  • @AlistairAI Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

  • "Well, I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition!" ...

  • @Bestmanme08 Almost one million google.com postings that is.

  • Almost one million google.com now say "Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python"!

  • I thought this was composed by Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern -schplenden -schlitter -crasscrenbon -fried -digger -dingle -dangle -dongle -dungle -burstein -von -knacker - thrasher -apple -banger -horowitz -ticolensic -grander -knotty -spelltinkle -grandlich -grumblemeyer -spelterwasser - kurstlich -himbleeisen -bahnwagen -gutenabend -bitte -ein -nürnburger -bratwustle -gerspurten -mitz -weimache - auuber -hundsfut -gumberaber -shönendanker-kalbsfleisch -mittler -aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm.

  • @Amethystasheryn Probably JPS himself, since it's in the sheet music. This is the official music of the Ministry of Silly Walks, so why not ring a bell as you play it?

  • @knoxklay11 'Course you don't get fucking wafers with it!

  • by jove I have not heard 'owt so good as this since 1893

  • @Corollaboi I think the idea is that it deliberately does not fit with the chords - since the Liberty Bell got cracked, so it is supposed to be a bum note!

  • Ah, that bell! Who decided on that?

Other than that, I liked the recording. Thanks!
