It's 1959, and The Drifters are now The Shadows. Cliff's 5th release. Paired up with 'Travellin Light' on a very rare 78
(Travellin' Light's now posted, folks!)

  • I remember singing along to this when I was 13. Listening to it now, I think half the lyrics I was singing were wrong, although they sounded right at the time. It's amazing how many years you can be singing the wrong lyrics.

  • Is there a 78 rpm version of apache ?

  • This song was considered answer of cliff to Elvis's song Jail House Rock in the game of faster singing.

  • Alucinante, ver girar un 78 rpm, soy un adicto a los tocadiscos antiguos solo me falta plata para comprar, mi sueño es un Bettor Dual 1211.

  • @musicfreak1967 Cliff is good - Elvis was the KING

  • @craig1974 Yeah unbelievable.it might be the U.S. was very protective about Elvis as their "King of Rock'n'Roll",

and Cliff never got a foot in the door. Yet this is some of the tightest rock'n'roll,Britain could throw back at the U.S.

At that time there still was some sort of U.S. Musicians Union policy, that prevented foreign entertainers to get a foothold in the U.S.The Beatles changed all that.

I never understood that Elvis/Cliff rivalry anyway, I liked'm both.

  • Fucking A-MAZING ! People that think Cliff Richard represents lame 70's gospel 'rock',should take a listen to these Late 5t's, early 6t's tracks.

  • @craig1974 - he had 8 top 40 singles in the States - 3 of them were top 10 (Devil woman, We don't talk anymore and Dreaming) - he obviously wasn't as big there as in most countries - but I think there lies the problem - he was (and still is) such a big star in most countries he didn't have time to tour the States as much as he wanted - and you have to tour constantly over there to remain in the spotlight.

  • @gxocgxoc What on Earth has this got to do with Prince Charles.? Please stop polluting other people's contributions. (A very nice contribution I might add, much enjoyed.)
