Latest mobile communications solutions of Azerfon presented at BakuTel-2011 and modern network technology by NSN will strengthen Azerbaijan's ICT leadership in CIS region
Baku, Azerbaijan -- November 24, 2011. First 3G services provider Azerfon and Nokia Siemens Networks held a press conference announcing their participation at BakuTel-2011 and presented a number of innovative mobile communication solutions and projects for the first time in entire CIS region. Azerfon has also announced that it had agreed on 80mln USD deal with Nokia Siemens Network, under which the leading global network equipment manufacturer NSN is completing building the widest 3G network in Azerbaijan.
"Azerfon being the most innovative and transparent mobile operator of Azerbaijan has introduced a number of latest mobile technologies for the first time in Azerbaijan. I would like to use BakuTel-2011, the largest ICT Expo of the region, to announce that today we are presenting a few more innovative projects and solutions for the first time in CIS region. First, in partnership with NSN we are currently completing the widest 3G network coverage not only in Azerbaijan, but also in CIS region given the density of 3G stations and number of population. 3G coverage of Azerfon will also be available in metro stations. Second, for the time among CIS countries we are launching mobile communication services on airplanes. As of April 2012 all passengers of AZAL will be able to text, call and use internet while on-board. These are very innovative and unique services that will definitely strengthen Azerbaijan's ratings on global ICT development reports" -- said the CEO of Azerfon, Mr. Jurgen Peetz
"Being a worldwide leader in 3G networks development with more than 200 customers all over the world, Nokia Siemens Networks is proud to be a part of the dynamic technological growth of Azerbaijan and to support Azerfon in the network modernization project", - says Ernst Nassl, Head of Nokia Siemens Networks in Turkey, Eastern Europe and Central Asia countries. -- "In order to provide the people of Azerbaijan with the best-in-class mobile services, now we are upgrading Azerfon's network with our award-winning Flexi Multiradio base stations. Being the most innovative from the technological point of view, this equipment is also the most environment friendly and energy efficient, and it received a wide range of prestigious international awards, including "Green Network Hardware and Infrastructure Award" by CTIA Wireless Association.
"But definitely the most important fact about this equipment that it makes the network fully ready for the launch of LTE. Today Nokia Siemens Networks is a world leader in LTE networks deployment over the globe, with 44 contracts signed. As for commercialization of LTE currently 16 out of 35 commercially launched LTE networks are built based on Nokia Siemens Networks solution, including the biggest LTE network in the world which provides services to more than 2 million users in USA", added Mr. Nassl.
The press-conference was followed with an interactive tour to the stands of Azerfon and NSN. During the tour media representatives tested 3G and 4G technology as well as other innovative solutions. The event was finalized with a workshop organized by IT specialists of NSN and Azerfon about mobile broadband development in the world and in Azerbaijan.
