Indeed, it should be the official video.

But to be honest - these hi-res games for ZX81 are really great. Having some RAMPACK and - if it would be popular - AY cheap added, this ZX81 would be good enough to stay without any need for ZX Spectrum upgrade (of course, if you had BW display only). Great achievement on such interesting machine. I was always impressed by ZX81.

haha! ... yep I managed to do that also. this was my last purchase for my beloved ZX81 before the following xmas when I "upgraded" (was there such a word back in 1984?) to an Electron. anyone remember ram-pack wobble? haha

Is it bad that I know that you can crash the game by playing it for long enough to get enough extra lives to go beyond the edge of the screen?

It's not basic.

If I remember rightly, they used some very clever machine code which replaced the text character set with redefined characters, allowing hi-rez game characters. It's something of a hack, probably based on how the Jupiter Ace was designed to work.
