An old film pictures life of Sumatra. Who were Dr. Gani and Sri Muljo? who can tell me about these dances? And were the last scenes taken on Java?

  • musik ama videonya ga match

  • Yeah the music is definitely West Sumatran (Minangkabau), not from Palembang. The dance is South Sumatran. The last part is Javanese (dance), but the music sounds Balinese to me.

  • I thing this dance is all about welcoming the guests, kinda an expression of respect and warmness. Anyway, I am originally from Lampung, it used to be part of South Sumatera which palembang was its capital. Lampung's culture is slightly similar with Palembang's. But I am pretty sure that the music played duing the dance was not from South Sumatera (Palembang). It is from west sumatera. Anyhow, your clips are amazing!!!! thanks for the posting!
