Funny, the last three videos I've uploaded have been uploaded in the opposite order in which the content in them has been created. I actually did this song several days ago and put it on Newgrounds shortly after. Here's the link and the author's comments:

Ah, finally did it. My first original song. Well, that would be Escape from Robot City, and even Osiris's Big Balls was original, but this is my first original song with me playing on guitar. I used GarageBand and my Line 6 POD X3 Live to record through USB. I kind of came up with everything as I recorded it.

The song suffered a couple setbacks because when a program freezes on a Mac, if you didn't save anything, you're fucked. So I had to redo entire parts all over again sometimes. The most fucked up of these setbacks was yesterday, when I had come back to finish it after a long time of not working on it, and I had done the last minute and 20 seconds and pretty much finished the song when I pressed Command-Z to delete a guitar take on the last soft solo at the end, and that fucking spinning beach ball came up and I had to force quit and lose everything. I re-did everything almost exactly the same way I had done it before GarageBand froze, except the solos that came out different because they were kind of improvised.

I recorded all the guitars. The drums are GarageBand loops, but the bass is hand-played with the Musical Typing thing. The soft percussion at the end is also hand-played. After this, I'm not using drum loops anymore, because I finally figured out how to make notes in a region, so I can actually write the drum notes easily and make it sound exactly on time, and also easily do things with the drums that I wouldn't be able to do with Musical Typing, like really fast and precise bass drum runs or a drum solo. Expect more video game covers. ;)

Anyway, I did this one for my girlfriend. As of the time I uploaded this, I haven't told her it exists yet or showed it to her, I'm uploading it here so I can easily show it to other people before I show it to her. I did this around the time I told her I'll probably be leaving a year earlier to study outside and she didn't take it very well. I felt the need to do something nice for her like this, so I did, although it's taken me longer than expected to finish it.

Hope you enjoy it. After this, I think I'll probably start working on a VG cover or two. So, 'till then. =D

  • Great song man! I'll admit, I've never checked out your material but I really enjoy this kind of sound. Really relaxing yet still metal [=

  • Thanks, man! Hopefully I'll have a home studio set up soon to produce material with much better quality. Can't decide to go with Pro Tools or Logic. Maybe I should use both at the same time.

  • I've never used Logic so I couldn't say but I find it hard to imagine you not being able to do what you want to do with Pro Tools. It's kickass.

  • Supposedly, Logic has WAY more options for everything MIDI, including a shitload of instruments and compatibility with soundfonts. I recently asked if Pro Tools could handle those in a store and they said no. I don't have an expensive keyboard or a keyboardist at hand so yeah... But Pro Tools is supposedly better at mixing and editing. I don't know if maybe I could use Garageband's synth stuff, which is decent, plus the soundfont compatibility, and import it into Pro Tools somehow.
