People simplify this movie as being some narcissistic cross-dressing thing. Can't they see the beauty in a person who isn't allowed to learn, WANTING to become educated? I grew up very religious and was told that learning wasn't important. It's a human hunger, to learn and understand. I think this film is so incredibly beautiful for that reason alone.

I love the swelling musical resolution at 2:28 and at 3:32 that emphasizes the essence of the message that is sung at that very point. And the dissonant chant of the praying men is indeed haunting (once again the musical structure of dissonance mirroring the conflict between gender roles). "Yentl is a too often forgotten masterpiece of music, feeling, and storytelling.

The men singing at the end overwhelms me each time I hear it. So much beauty arising from the release of so much pain. I really wish that Barbra Streisand had included it on the soundtrack album.
