The world's faiths share a deep respect for water - it is essential for life, it represents purity, it is vital for health and gives hope to all. In July 2009 the Alliance of Religions and Conservation held a unique conference which bought together faith leaders from around the world with major secular organisations to discuss how they can work closely together to help conserve the earth's over stretched supply of water. In part 1 of this 2 part series taken from interviews from the conference we hear from representatives of major faiths expressing their belief in the sacredness of water. In Part 2 we hear how major secular organisations hope to work closely with religious people of the world to bring about a greater understanding of the importance of water to all aspects of life.
