@jibbi4one while I agree that big booms and roars shouldn't be necessary, you have to realize that PR is very important. This stuff is funded by the government, government money comes from the people, so people have to be interested. Sadly most people aren't entirely intellectual, and so you do have to go through some trouble to make it interesting.
I'm a huge NTR/NERVA fan, Ameteur rocket scientist, and even I would appreciate a little Roar of this mighty beast :-)
No offense, regards.

This was at Jackass flats in Nevada, yes? Did anything ever blow up, or meltdown, and how contaminated is the spot? Chances of touring the place are not existent?

I just want to thank you for posting this video. As a child, I watched some of the parts (Huge stuff) used to make this test stand being sent on it's way to Nevada from the plant where my father was a designer. Built at Air Preheater Corp, Wellsville, NY

There are no guarantees in life. With that kind of attitude, its a wonder you get out of bed in the morning. Are all your walls padded, your corners soft, so nobody gets hurt? Read Dewar's book, you'll learn a lot.
Yes, small rocket engine reactor was intentionally blown up (search for pics) explosion circa 1975 the purpose was to measure radiation levels and clean-up of site & access financial costs associated with explosion project study. I believe you can tour areas where Project NERVA took place. It think they also take you to NUCLEAR-bomb Explosion test sites in State of Nevada/DOE.
Search tours NEVADA.

I agree, that is indeed an awesome feat that should be repeated. Do you know another awesome feat....video editing. No one wants to watch 10 minutes of silent paint drying before getting to the actual test. We're not setting up a story with a buildup and a climax, we're wanting to see the test of a nuclear rocket.

@TaintedMojo If you want hollywood production make your own video clip.

No, seriously. I'm quite sure you can incite some excitement for this project by perhaps a live video stream of some paint on a wall drying, as long as it's paint on the wall of this specific facility. To make that even better, in no way should you ever switch to feed to something interesting like the rocket being test. No, it must be of the paint drying or perhaps some weeds in a nearby field growing. Only in this manner can you pique community interest in projects such as this.

@TaintedMojo You must not understand.
These clips are from film of actual NTR tests conducted in the deserts of Nevada by a team of dedicated people @ the cost of 10 billion dollars in the 1970's. The United States has never achieved this level of nuclear rocket propulsion since. This was a testament to engineering feats that seem lost to Americans now. America's 'Sputnik Moment' seems lost unless we find the NUCLEAR ROCKET MOJO AGAIN.

Amazing. You somehow managed to take a subject like nuclear propulsion and managed to make to most boring video imaginable about it. Maybe you should add another ten minutes of aerial footage of the facility to improve it.

@TaintedMojo You could look @ other clips posted.
Sorry, to ruin your intellectual arousal with such trivial science.
Maybe if you BRAIN FARTED LESS and actually helped to support the development to build a nuclear rocket engine to move humanity further ahead it could seem anti-boring.
