Solar camping shower bags are a great way to get clean in the outdoors. You can take them anywhere: on camping trips, hunting, fishing, boating or any outdoor activity. You fill them with water and leave them out under the sun for 3 hours and you can then enjoy a hot shower for up to 5 minutes.

There's only one problem though: The shower bag has to be hung somewhere and hung high enough so that you can stand beneath it.
Unless you're The Hulk there's just no way you're going to climb up a tree with a 5-Gallon shower bag filled to the brim. These things weigh about 45 pounds full.

By using the manual pulley system shown in the video it's a lot more realistic to hang a shower bag, even for one person, although you will be using a bit of muscle to lift it up. I never said that all you'd need to do is press the easy button and voila ;) For two people this should be a breeze and a real solution to hanging a solar shower bag. Obviously it's crucial to use a solid rope such as a polypropylene rope and to make sure that the stake is planted firmly into the ground. Make sure to test the solidity before standing underneath the bag.
An alternative to using a stake is to tie that end of the rope to another tree close by. I recommend doing that if possible because the stake might not be planted firmly enough depending on the ground condition.

CampingShowerWorld.com is not responsible for any injuries related to not using this technique properly. We're merely providing an easier way to hang a shower bag.

Materials:
- 20' Polypropylene rope
- 1 tent stake
- 2x4 lumber.

  • Rope around the tree also works--timber hitch !!

  • @archuka1 Not a bad idea! I may just shoot a video demonstrating that next time ;)

  • Hi David,

The stake is planted firmly into the ground so there's no way it would have come loose. I agree that there are better ways to tie knots than the technique shown in the video so please use the best technique you know of for tying knots. The video mainly showcases a way to hang a solar shower bag without having to climb up a tree. You can use something else other than a tent stake to hold it in place as well.

  • stake = bad idea in my opinion. would trust it with a large rock on top maybe. Better yet make a hitch post knot and just make a loop with a double knot in it? Even in the video the guy looks leery of the stake...the disclaimer at the end really says this is probably not a good idea.
