So sorry to hear about your friend, most ins. co. out there now require that your BMI has to be a minimum of 35 to qualify as a candidate, if between 35-40, 2 health issue is required. there is a study conducted out there called the Bariatric Outcomes Longitutional Database. It is a study that determines the best surgery for a certain type of patient in the long run, I have seen great success with a lot of patients, there are a small number that are unsuccessful due to lack of lifestyle change

Hi, condolences for your friend. I have known many who died from weight loss surgery, some of whom were close friends and I am still grieving. Thank you so much for your excellent video! (I like you didn't want to have surgery either but ended up losing 112 lbs from going on Weight Watchers to treat my severe GERD.)

@butterflybegins I am so sorry about your friend. I had lapband surgery, I had diabetes, high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, I had a hard time breathing and my knee's hurt, for me if I did not take the chance to have this surgery I know I would have died, so for me it was to die not getting it because of my health or die from having the surgery, I lost 75 pds it has been 4yrs now and I have kept it off and my health has improved.

I just had my lap band removed after having it for four years. It was four years of misery. The truth is that the horrible side effects are very real. I lost weight and regained it again.
I think removing the band is the best decision I have ever made.
I agree women should love who we are and be at peace with ourselves, regardless of how society says we should be.
We need to reject the cult of thin.
Thank you for for being so honest in your video.

I am sincerely for you and your friends family losing a daughter and a friend it widely known that weightloss surgery is a very high risk procedures I was told because I had 3 previous dvts I had 60% chance in dying and 40% in living I made the to take the risk if I did not do anything I would have died early and also if I also did nothing I would have suffered a severe pain most of my life too I know this may not be of any comfort but I am sure this surgeon tried to save your m8 I am sure

Wow! Thanks for the great ideas. I think they will go very well with the program I'm using through the reallifeforhealth website. Their system is really easy to use and it does everything. They have 1000's of different recipes to choose from and they help you build a fitness and nutrition plan that suits your goals. I'm happy that there's no fad diets, pills, or required supplements. I'm really impressed with it, especially since they offer a free trial.
Wake up call? Here is a wake up call. WLS is only as good as 2 people. #1. The surgeon who performs the surgery and #2. The patient who follows the rules of the surgery. I am a lapband success story and proud of it. Lost over 100 pounds. Anyone who seeks out a reputable surgeon and then follows the lifestyle required for a WLS patient WILL succeed! If your friend died 5 days after lapband surgery, I would dare say it was NOT complication of the band itself but a general surgical risk such as

@butterflybegins WRONG. She got here surgery @ one of the BEST hospitals in the Nation in Southern California from a surgeon at the for-front of the lap band movement. Some one above said 1/1000 deaths is a great stat. Well when the 1 person is YOUR friend or if it had been any of you defending this surgery you might want to warn others as well. Let me REPEAT: You are adults MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS. There is NOTHING wrong with me sharing this story for those on the FENCE

I'm not advocating to pull down the video, but I really think, and suggest that before slanderizing WLS you at least make sure to get all the facts and information straight about it in the first place. There are several bits of information and things you have mentioned that are just...wow; totally not right. As for the lapband, it won't lose as much as the bypass, and it reduces weight loss much slower. I could point out and mention much more, but there's a stupid character limit for replies.

@KyahRose You are welcome to make a video & post it as a response to this one and correct any facts you THING I have wrong. I talk about Gastric bypass & lap-band not just the latter.
