Last month the Iranian authorities executed at least 83 individuals. That's almost three executions every single day, and we know the real figure is likely to be much higher.
The majority of executions in Iran take place after unfair trials and have included evidence obtained from forced "confessions". Defendants are routinely subjected to torture and other foms of ill treatment.
The death penalty is also applied in political ca...ses where individuals are convicted of "moharebeh" (enmity against God). Members of ethnic minorities, especially Kurds, are also often targeted for execution. Iran continues to use stoning as a method of execution and is one of the few countries left in the world to execute juvenile offenders.
A big thanks to the Amnesty Ireland Iran Action Group :-)))
