He's a comedian. There is no point to be made. Politically and culturally relevant things draw people's interest, and your average audience member is more likely to get the joke. It was funny, the audience laughed... You laughed, I laughed. And I'm american. Yeah, I remember doing that in elementary school. It is weird. Though you weren't required to say it--I remember a girl in my class didn't say it because it contradicted her family's religious beliefs. Also, if it's purpose is to create a mindless obedience to the government, ultimately it fails. How much you buy into the "America is the best country in the world" myth depends more on your family and where you live. Even in conservative areas people disagree on these things.
