John actually became "friends" with Johnson when he met up with the remaining pillar of autumn survivors that escaped before 07 exploded. Johnson was among them, though nobody knows how Johnson made it because he was seen hugging an elite seconds before the explosion.

ltuner's right...chief met johnson just before CE...if you read the books, you'd know that. you are right about one thing: johnson wasn't chief's father figure, Sergeant Mendez wa.s he was john's TI.

Have you even played CE?! Johnson is the guy talking to the marines getting ready for the battle! He's even seen at the end hugging an elite if you beat it on legendary.

I always thought that as Chief was growing up after he was taken from his home that Sargent Johnson was like a father figure to him, but then again I could be proven wrong like most of my theories.
