In 1997, Pavement appeared on a Dutch TV program which documented the writing of a song, culminating in the performance of the song at the end of the show. This is a video of the song Pavement wrote, certainly one of the greatest unreleased songs ever.

In 2008, it was announced that this song would be released on the reissue of Brighten the Corners. Sadly, a few weeks later it was pulled from the tracklist when VPRO (the TV Dutch station who owns the rights to the recording) demanded an unreasonable amount of money for its use.

There is a chance that a different version of the song will show up on the Terror Twilight reissue, as apparently it was attempted at early sessions for the album.

  • Why is this song not on the BTC reissue, damn it?

  • VPRO wanted a ridiculous amount of money for it.

    Very sad :(

  • so you're saying they wrote the song on the spot?

  • yes, but it wasn't improvised or anything. they worked it out (for the most part) beforehand, although from what i can tell it still had a pretty loose arrangement by the time they did this, the final version. there's an mp3 floating around with audio of the whole program in which you can hear them running through some practice takes, working out the lyrics and arrangement stuff. one snippet has malkmus taking lead with french lyrics.

  • this video pretty much sums up pavement for me

    sm making quirky riffs

    ss taking himself too seriously

bob looking for things to do

    steve playing it cool

and mark just sitting on his ass with a smile on his face

  • Man SM seems like such a d-bag, especially when he completely shafts Scott at the end.

  • Man.. I love this song :D

  • malkmus doesn't seem like he would be a good friend

  • malkmouse prevented his ass from getting beat the fuck up everyday by being just a tad more clever than anyone else. But only a tad.

  • did they actually do a video on how to manufacture your own single?? cause that would be badass

  • @morpheus0055 SM always took the reigns and left Spiral Stairs' creative force at the door mat.

  • @sashwap I WILL RAISE THE FUNDS DAMN IT!

  • i heard this song in the documentary and ive been trying to find it since lol its been like almost two years since i saw that documentary ffs

  • Why the he'll can't I ever view this on a mobile connection? I would like to be able to listen to it in my car. I also can't find a download from anywhere.

  • Ik herinner mij dees aflevering nog gelijk gisteren.... Zalige tijden!

  • @Sizztastic Somehow I don't think Kannberg's contributions will be missed on "Terror Twilight". His songwriting style wouldn't have fit well on that album.

Frankly I don't get these 'Malkmus is a douchebag' things. He seems like a very intelligent and funny guy who got just got burned out with Pavement.
