  • Ninety percent of Papua New Guinea's four million people call themselves Christians. But most have little understanding of the religion, Mr. Thurman said. They are what he called ''skin Christians", entranced by the stories the Bible tells but clinging to their animist beliefs.

  • Christians call indigenous peoples "animist spirit worshipers" but in non- Christian reality this is just LIFE survival humanist compassion.Primitivism is No Sin. Missionaries steal the land and convert them which happens to be a "Crime of Genocide" according to the U.N.What Wycliffe fails to see is that Oral Language Is Far Superior the Written Text?Where are the Cedar of Lebanon they where cut down to Make Military ships and Build Churches.Destroys the land to print bibles. Who is the Animal?

  • the Akha don't use up and down. When talking about a post, they might talk about the top or bottom of it.

They might talk about the bottom of an item or the top of it, like a board.

But for up and down as in a mountain they talk in terms of "away from" (which means many times, down the mountain, vs. "going home to" which means going back up the mountain from the fields. But usually they say "Yah ngeh eeh meh" which means they are going to the fields, and "eeh hkauh oh lay" which means home

  • Dr. Lewis translated the New Testament into Akha and recounted the movements of Christ and the Apostles, he studied the topography of the Holy Land to determine whether the Lord and his followers had been going up or down. What you say when you walk along the level, He asked his Akha informant."Oh, we never walk along the level," he replied."We are always going either up or down." Wayfarers PG30

  • what is the difference between Akha Up and Down, and the Up and down as i would know it as an America English speaker?

  • According to Paul W. Lewis, the Akha expression for "goodbye" is "let me go up"; "go up carefully is the standard reply. One goes either up or down."(Wayfarers PG 30 Paragraph 3)

  • a missionary linguist named Mr. Thurman said. ''A wrong translation can lead to some really funny beliefs.''Wycliffe says it has 5,400 missionaries in dozens of countries, developing alphabets, teaching literacy and working on Bibles in 1,053 languages. In Papua New Guinea, Wycliffe Bible Translators and its arm, the Summer Institute of Linguistics, have produced Bibles in 100 languages. At their headquarters, missionaries held a pancake breakfast. • Thanks for responding you must know many things about the Akha?

You are a very good writer and in Akha.

what can you tell me about the Akha word for "Rice" "God" "Holy".

I like indigenous languages and would be grateful for more information on the Akha word for "ancestor" as well.

I hope that you can find the time to answer these questions, I believe them to be important issues in Language preservation.

    Thanks again
