This is one of the best breakdowns of the modes that I've seen. I learned absolutely every other aspect of music theory and it took me awhile to understand modes. I wish someone would have explained it to me like this a long time ago.

Cool. What is it?

Nicely explained. Now, tell us why learning modes is important. How does this help our bass playing? When are arpeggios formed from modes as opposed to scales, and why?

@GaryBass100 Understanding modes allows you to conceptually understand(as a bass player) how to best compliment the melody. Modes and scales are the same. You have the first scale, in this case the Major scale, and every other scale is a mode of the first one.

Ok, so if I was in they key of C for example and I wanted to play G Mixolydian, then I would be playing an F# as opposed to the F. And to use the mode to get its different sound, I would put emphasis on the F# during the song?

Well actually there is no F# in G Mixolydian or C. They are relative modes so they consist of the same notes what you would want to do to get sound of the G Mixolydian is to fit in the notes of the G7 chord: G B D F. Also if you were talking about a bassline, you would want to establish G as your root note or tonal center. I hope that helped
