In 1941 the Coastal Command received the first Liberators and the gap i the Atlantic was closed. Gradually the Command was reinforced with better equipment and other new aircraft as the Bristol Beaufighter and De Havilland Mosquito and the number of successes in fighting the U-bots and surface vessels increased steadily as did the number of pilots shot down over the sea resqued by Coastal Command.

  • Since the allies occupied Greenland, as well as Iceland, why didn't they fill the "air gap" by basing aircraft in Greenland?

    Does anyone out there know?

  • my dad flew b24s in ww2 224 sqd.

  • Yes rather.

  • Nice capturing. Good, long clips.

The material is most interesting, if you are into WW2 aviation.
