This is my Goldfish tank, again. Here it has a new Black Background (I'm not big on background, but I got some nice posterboard for $1.98 so that worked fine! My tank is like 4 foot by 2 foot, so It had to be big. Anyway, the Calico Ryukin is a temp - he's a gift for my mother for xmas so he won't be there for ever. I know 6 is my Max anyway, and I don't want to overdo it with my fish. I love them all! Again, red and white faced one is Phantom, Calico (orange-veiltail) is Spittle, Blue Oranda is Monstro, Black Moor is Tyrese (he's a big bully), White Ryukin is Pearl, Nymph is Sharky, and Loach is Chopper (he cuts down all my plants, daily) hah hah. Yes, I know I have some brown algae and why ... :P Thanks for looking! If you need advice, check out my eHow page, or send me a message and I'll post your reply there! http://www.ehow.com/members/ryukinprincess.html

  • Great lookin tank. From the gravle all the way to the crystal clear water. Doesnt look lke you have much filtration for those kind of fish. What kind of filter are you running? Why isnt any algea growing in the tank?

  • @sarno85 I'm running a 70 Gallon external filter, don't mess with the water more than once every month or so, and I don't overstock. It's basically common sense that makes a good fishtank clean and healthy. I bought a few larger fish since this video and the tank is still just as crystal clear (got rid of a fish or two of course to make space). I also have a lot of REAL plants which help keep the water clean, and some Nerite snails, and freshwater clams, too. Never had an algea problem. :)

  • Oh my lord we have the same tank, fish and accesories......it's like creepy....

  • @sarno85 Make sure you get "NERITE" snails, as Apples and trapdoors, mystery snails, etc, aren't good for coldwater planted tanks. I've tried them all and only Nerites seem to do well and keep things clean.

  • @RyukinPrincess Ok, thanx. I'm going to look into getting some of those snails.

  • @opheliamoonstone Well yes... but the larger they are, the more waste they produce - thus causing poor water quality etc etc... :P most people who buy bowls and small tanks, etc... are the ones complaining about having to change the water too often and them being "dirty" which causes all the confusion in the goldfish hobby as it is ... :)

  • @RyukinPrincess the only thing that can stunt growth is poor nutrition and water quality. The small tank/stunted growth thing is a myth. Trust me. I WISH they would stop growing. Granted, I wouldn't put a big goldfish in anything smaller than a 25 gallon, and only with FANTASTIC water quality. That would just be mean.

  • @opheliamoonstone Exactly why I told the other commenter no more than 1 fish - as MOST people do not want to do as much as you have and clean regularily, take water tests, etc. The less you stock, the easier the care is - especially for beginners. The larger they are, the more waste they produce and fish grow rapidly for the first year and then slow down a little after that. Still, though, when the area is smaller, they won't grow as quickly which is actually a health hazard.

  • @RyukinPrincess I have two goldfish in a 25 gallon tank. I just clean it very regularly, and keep good filtration to maintain excellent water quality. It's doable, just requires more maintenance than a larger tank. I do water quality tests every 3 days or so, and keep a ph monitor on the side of the tank, so I can check for any daily fluctuations.

However, if the fish I have keep growing (so far, just one has grown alot in the past year or so) I may need to purchase a larger tank for them.
