This program by the National Institues of Health features narratives of seven women recovering from problems with alcohol. These stories make it clear that it's possible to miss danger signs and that social drinking can become problem drinking, which in turn can evolve into addiction. Abuse and alcoholism are often perceived as problems that only affect men, but alcoholism has been on the rise among women for the last 30 years.

  • First, the person takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink and before you know it, the drink has taken the person. It's a hell of an addiction too. It's every where and cheap. I drank pretty heavy for a long time but, I was one of the lucky ones. I was able to quit and haven't had any really bad cravings for it since but, the thought does still run through my mind from time to time.

  • People are drinking less and smoking more pot for some reason.

  • my wife is in denial about her addiction. the awful thing is not only her denial but her family is in denial. she has everyone hating me for trying to get her sober. this is so hard.

  • men in general imo think handle alcohol much better, we drink coz we maybe like the taste, i feel that women just drink to get wasted girls who come to a party allready totally drunk, just sad rly

  • @azonmymind Just a quick note in the case you check back to this thread.... A few weeks ago a got a card from my husband, it said, "I know I might not say it all the time, but I'm so happy with what you're doing. This day isn't just the day you quit drinking, it's the anniversary of the day I got my wife back. I love you." I hope you can give a card to your wife just like this someday soon. :)

  • @azonmymind Try to help her. Spend time with her.

  • I wish my wife could see this..I want my wife back.
