RoboVox is a large interactive public sound installation by media artist Martin B. Bricelj, using sms for public interaction. It will be installed in crowded metropolitan squares preferably on those carrying some social or even political connotation.
Its purpose is to serve as a tool for an individual, who's voice usually gets lost in the sounds of the mass, the society. An individual can send a text message using his mobile phone to the dedicated RoboVox's number. Upon receiving the SMS RoboVox says out loud the statement, the protest, the declaration of love, or whatever the message may read, thus lending its voice to the anonymous individual.
An important aspect of the project is the sound: it is going to be manifested as sound design of public space in which RoboVox appears. Where this will be possible, the opening event will include a concert with live acts of musicians involved.
Robovox is:
- an interactive public monument, with the purpose of serving as people's voice,
- a sound installation in public squares, with especially-for-the-occasion designed surround sound by sound artists involved,
- a live music event with a/v created by artists for Robovox,
Robovox is accompanied by:
- a research and conference about important questions Robovox brought up,
- an A/V DVD with archives of Robovox events, music, animations and a book with essays and conversations produced at the conference.

2002 in Vienna -practically at the same place where the robot is standing now- was a similar installation. Not in the form of a robot but as a tent/camp called Text-FM, a participatory SMS-to-Radio project by Public Netbase and British artists Graham Harwood and Matthew Fuller, that was already presented at an other event in October 2001.
