  • we took no precautions for the future of Germany. As a victor in battle, one has a responsibility for helping the defeated for a prosperous and safe future. The victors of WW1 certainly did not do that, and as a result, gave Hitler a great reason to fire up some Germans for WW2.

  • You tell the voters that they have to look after a country that spat on neutrality, slaughtered 6,000 civilians, used of poison gas, unrestricted submarine warfare, first to bomb cities from the air and took 35% of Russia's people and total land including the Ukraine's bread basket, 60% of its industry, over 80% of its coal (in freezing March) and never accepted its loss after destroying a third of France.

  • You yourself admitted with Maynard Keynes right after- Germany was strong enough to take Europe after a mere 20 years! The treaty wasn't the product of 3 men but diplomats, economists that would make Copenhagen a garden party. After SIX MONTHS they agreed to the Covenant, international organisation, disarmament, etc/ Maybe it didn't succeed, but they had NOTHING to work with; give them a break! Of course, I am playing devil's advocate here...

  • France was devastated and Britain was bankrupt with a million dead. Can't blame them for looking after themselves first.

BUT this isn't the forum to express historiographical arguments! Thanks for the comments.

  • just went over this in school. it was definitely an abomination treaty on the side of the allies...and this is coming from an american

  • Disagree. If it had been actually followed we would not have had an even more apocalyptic war a mere generation later. An abominable treaty? Brest-Litovsk, which a victorious Germany forced on Russia (or that to Romania) less than a year before Germany would be pleading for mercy.
