Getting to know Sammy Valafar

Sammy Valafar was born a racer! His passion for racing has affected every aspect of his life, including his college education. His study in engineering was only to enhance his understanding of the scientific principles involved in racing so that he could exploit them to go even faster. Sammy has been a huge fan of The Mazda Miata for several years now. He has used this interest to subsidize his love of racing.

Sammy not only enjoys racing immensely, he is very good! He Places very well in almost every single race he competes in and takes the checkered flag more often than not. Running up front consistently does not come without some controversy for Sammy. Almost always contending for the win, his race cars are heavily scrutinized by Tech officials repeatedly.

When Sammy is not racing he is very busy running his business. His business exists solely to support his passion for racing. Everyone knows that racing is extremely expensive and Sammy works extremely hard and does whatever he has to do in order to be able to afford to live his passion and be successful at it. Sammy owns an Internet based vehicle, parts and accessories dealership. Many of the skills and values that he learned from racing have made his business successful. "I decided to start my own business so that I would have the flexibility to take off from work and race whenever I needed to without having to answer to someone. Without my business my racing endeavors would not be possible."

Sammy has been a member of the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) since 1993. He started racing in SCCA Autocross competitions and won his very first Autocross event at the 1993 Florida State Autocross Championships in Gainesville. He competed and did well in a few more autocrosses but slowly made the transition to road racing since he wanted as much time behind the wheel as possible, to improve and develop his skills. Road Racing gave him exactly what he was looking for with much more seat time along with many new and exciting challenges.

Sammy has road raced on and off in SCCA Club racing since 1994 when he earned his competition license. He would save up money and race as much as he could until he ran out of money and then repeat the cycle. He did not race very often but when he had the money to race he would usually win or do really well.

With 14 Years of racing experience, on and off, motorsports are still just as exciting to him today as when he started. He feels those who are fortunate enough to be professional race car drivers have the best occupation on the planet.

"Winning a hard earned race is probably the most euphoric feeling that a racer will experience during his career". -According to Sammy. He loves to drive no matter where he finishes. To fight a hard battle and end up as the victor takes those feelings to a whole other level.

In the world of professional racing one of Sammy's role models is Mark Martin. He is one of the most professional drivers both behind the wheel and during off track duties ever. Mark Martin has the utmost respect from all of his competitors and almost never causes an on track incident. He races extremely clean and represents his sponsors unbelievably well. He has been trying to retire for a couple of years now but his sponsors, fans, and competitors do not want to see him go.

"Racing Is My Passion. I simply Love it and enjoy racing more than any other activity that I could be doing. If a professional racing team wanted me to drive for them long term with an understanding that I would receive zero monetary compensation regardless of my performance I would not hesitate at the opportunity and the fact that I would receive zero monetary compensation would not affect my performance either.

Just being able to race and compete makes me happier than any amount of money could. Money cannot buy talent or generate passion. When I was 13 & 14 Years old I worked 2 jobs steadily so that I could save up enough money to build my first race car. I was rewarded for my efforts with my parents kicking me out of the house, as I was unable to cooperate with their requests to forget about racing. I decided to major in Mechanical Engineering in College because I knew it would help me to better understand the technical aspects of racing and give me an edge as a racing driver. Then I went and completed an MBA because I figured it would help me to better understand the business side of racing and also give me more of an edge. I have engineered everything in my life so that I can excel at my passion."
