George Earth, an Ojibwe, was born in 1935 and grew up on the White Earth Indian Reservation of Minnesota. The interview was conducted on the Red Cliff Indian Reservation in Wisconsin during their 27th Annual Pow Wow. George and his friend Mary arrived in their Ford pulling a little aqua blue and white trailer. Their summers are usually spent on the Pow Wow Highway throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, Canada, South and North Dakota. George is an old and trusted friend who I have known for about 20 years. He was gracious enough to agree to this interview.
It has been a long-term interest of mine to research the sounds of another time within unique cultural contexts. This work is centered in the global efforts of the World Soundscape Project (WSP) to document and archive extinct and endangered sounds from around the world.
