Sri Lankan Cricketers return home 04-03-2009

The Sri Lankan cricketers who experienced a terrorist attack in Lahore have returned home
The Cricketers narrowly escaped the attack in Lahore. They arrived at the Katunayake International Airport this morning. Parliamentarians, relatives and Sri Lanka Cricket officials were at the Airport to receive them. There were emotional scenes as relieved relatives welcomed home the tour party who were led from a specially chartered Sri Lankan Airlines jet.
Parlianemtarians Gamini Lokuge, Bandula Gunawardena, Dhilan Perera, Sarath Kumara Gunaratne and Hussein Bahila inquired into the wellbeing of the cricketers. The Pakistani Government took all possible measures to see that the cricketers returned home safely. An Air Force chopper evacuated the cricketers from the Gadaffi Stadium,
Skipper Mahela Jayawardena said none of them thought they would come alive out of the situation. They had been brought up in a background of terrorist activities," They are used to hearing, seeing these things. Therefore he said they ducked under their seats when the firing began Spinner Muttiah Muralitharan said he was glad to be back.

Star batsman Thilan Samaraweera, Ajantha Mendis, Kumar Sangakkara and other players were dispatched to the Nawaloka hospital from the Airport. The Hospital had made all arrangements to ensure treatment to them. Doctors said their condition is not serious.
