Likewise man. I'm a guy who spent literally every waking moment drunk or getting there for a lot of years. It nearly killed me and did get me injured so badly that my life was permanently altered as a result. Unbelievably, I somehow managed to get sober and stay that way - in July it will be for 17years. There's no doubt in my mind that this song is about alcoholism and I too understand every word of this.

Hey...then maybe Barry Manilow did him a favor by re-naming it "MAN-dy"!!!

Sorry for the awful joke, but I just couldn't help myself. : )

For those Yelling at MANILOW.....blame Clive Davis. Manilow has said he originally recorded this version. Clive said that's not what I want. Blame soul sucker Davis.

sounds like a sick hobbit song. Great that Barry Manilow was there to save the future for this "something"...

This original song is very interesting to hear. Originally, it was thought that this song was a tribute to the drink, brandy. The links are there: The romanticism - "you came and gave without taking." The brutality of alcoholic withdrawal - "you kissed me and stopped me from shaking...I need you today, oh Brandy..."
