i'm growing paulownias from seed since july of 2011 and the biggest one is two feet high and going strong. can't wait to transplant them outside now that spring is coming here in europe. i'm growing from seed only and it's quite difficult. i left my two week old seedlings outside in the warm but weak sunlight for about 6 hours and half of them died. they were fine inside, on the window but not outside happened last year as well. you need a lot of care an patience for these plants.

you didn't show how to remove the little seedling from the big root once it sprouts in the trench. i'd like to know what to do next year when i have roots to cut. thank you!

I did your technique, but my roots are thin, flexible and long like ropes and potted up (4) 1ft long sections. I have paulownia elongata and I'm hoping they'll sprout in a couple weeks.

@stevelau1933 The problem you may have is several trees coming up from each root. When you try to separate them you may have a high mortality rate.

I have an empress tree that is about 3 years old and I would love to start other trees. My large tree does not have the tiny roots like shown. Can I use the seed pods ? If so , how..

@Dlorezzz Why don't you start some paulownia from seed pods then begin to clone from the the roots after they are about a year old.
