  • Yes, its single speed, using a chain.

  • all very good....But does it do a skid????

  • No, lots of ballast to hold it down :)

  • i like the idea of some noise cuz it just seems safer, around other cars etc...i can't believe this was done on a zx series. AWESOME

  • Plenty of spooky chain noise for the peds. People in the cage can't hear your screams :)

  • i like it. But Can you tell us about autonomy of movement, speed, power and torque?

    Weight and its distribution?

I think it would be better to put an additional pinion/sprocket to reduce the final sprocket and use belt drive INSTEAD OF chain.

  • Cool. It´s a shame that only motorcycles with fairings can look unmodified while secretly packing a brushless motor.

  • Love electric bike conversions. It would be nice to see a video with the fairings off and you walking us through the components you used : )

  • kudos, darth! i think tim and gil are using 2 slightly different definitions for "direct drive". tim seems to take it to mean the motor is in the hub of the wheel. gil seems to take it to mean there is no gearbox. most of what i have read, including the wikipedia article on "direct drive mechanism", makes me think tim's definition is the more strictly correct definition, as the chain itself is a reduction.

  • I like it, ***** Look very CooL

  • Well, looks like im the first to give you a Positive response to this one Darth. I don't think anyone has a right to comment until they have actually built one themselves, so Well Done. Looks nice, doubtless ul get better range & power the more development you do. One point re Tim & Glims little spat, its very likely that Darths bike is Direct Drive (not shaft obviously) the large rear cog will allow for greater torque from a smaller motor, as a result increase the range.

  • I said the driver couldn't shift to another gear and that it was slow. That was my comment. How is that stupid? Obviously you are. If there is no transmision then that would be why but it does not show that in the video nor say it in the description.

I am right. It is chain drive not direct drive. The drive wheel would be on the motor shaft for it to be direct drive 1:1. This has a pinion and sprocket. You can change gears on it so you are wrong.

  • I am not thinking that a transmission doesn't exist, I am positive that it doesn't exist. No transmission, therefore no gears to switch into. It is a single speed. If you cannot see that you are the one who is confused.

In the electric vehicle world this is referred to as direct drive (whether that is correct terminology or not is besides the point).. You say he needs to shift, or why didn't he shift , or something else equally as stupid.
