The fights in the orignal trilogy are slower and less fancy than the new trilogy due to technology and budget restraints. Besides, you can't really "look" weak in the force. It's not a physical thing. Also darksiders tend to be stronger than light siders.

@wulfshelmut Metal is a better conductor and this is true however his limbs had many machinations through them so the force lightning would essentially fry all his circuits causing his arms, legs, and life support systems to stop functioning. We see the results of this in R.O.T.J. when he throws the emperor off the platform. That being said force lightning might be possible for him to do but would not be a wise decision.
