This is myself messing about on my Mapex M Birch kit (mistakes an' all!),
approaching midnight on 7th March for my Aunty Gwens Birthday Bash.
Kit was miked up and recorded straight onto MiniDisk.
This little solo was the end of a 12hr day behind the kit! Was pretty beat after playing this!!
I never seem to be able to play what I want in a solo, instead I normally result in playing single stroke rolls,
but I hope to one day really be creative and come up with some cool stuff.
I find these M Birch kits have a wonderful tone, and nice range. Tuned with a DRUMDIAL.

  • nice drumset! may i ask if it's the same one as Chris Adler's from lamb of God?

  • ha ha I wish my friend. This is the M Birch fusion kit, 2007 model, which was discontinued last year and replaced by the meridian kits.

  • Hey sequeirax, thanks for comment,

I tune my kit using a "DrumDial" an excellent tuning device. Can buy them for about £69 I think. To get more fat, low-end out of your 16", be sure to tune your 'top/batter' skin finger tight to begin with, then go round each lug and tighten just one full turn, until any rinkles in the skin are gone, then do the same with the 'bottom/resonant' skin, and you should be left with a nice boom/low-end tuning. Hope this helps!

  • very nice work.. are the skins new pro ones or are they the ones that came with the kit? if they came with the kit I'm even more impressed. great sound for such an affordable kit...

is that the original snare or a black panther? and recorded with all the proper mics or just 1 good quality overhead?

  • The skins were brand new REMO Emporer's, which I'd never tried before, but was very happy with fast response and 'open' tones, Though I may still opt for my 'Pinstripes',next time. Snare is 12"x7" Cherry Maple Black Panther. The kit was recorded with a full set of cheap but great quality drum mics, which were fed into a 16-track desk I think, and recorded onto a MD recorder, minimal EQ in post, just maybe a drum filter and volume adjusted. Thanks for the comment "SriDys", keep on ROCKIN'!

  • cool man!

you forgot to say "i like to play" at the end.

  • lol, thanks bro, and yeah fuckin' hell I didnt think 2, but then there's actually two pretty valid reasons/excuses why I didnt:

    1) gettin' sued by Garth and havin' to give my 12 month pre-paid subscription to sports illustrated magazine to him.

    2) It was fu**in' gone midnight and I was tired as a mutha fu**!, lol.
