Regina Spektor's "Folding Chair".
*A note on this version:
This version is from a studio demo recorded a couple of years ago, and mirrors the version she played at live shows.
This is not the same version of "Folding Chair" that is on Regina's new album, "Far." Although the lyrics are identical, the Far album version includes additional musical production in addition to the piano.
You can download the studio demo version here from www.RespektOnline.com. Just search for the song name in the box.
The Far version is of course available on the retail album.

Come and open up your folding chair next to me
My feet are buried in the sand
And there's a breeze
There's a shadow
You can't see my eyes
And the sea is just a wetter version of the skies
Let's get a silver bullet trailer
And have a baby boy
I'll safety pin these clothes all cool
And you'll
Graffiti up his toys
I've got a perfect body
But sometimes I forget
I've got a perfect body
'Cause my eyelashes catch my sweat
Yes, they do
They dooo
Oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo
Oo-oo-oo, oo
Ooo
Oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo
Oo-oo-oo, oo
Ooo
Now, I've been sitting on this abandoned beach
For years
Waiting for the salty water
To cover up my ears
But every time the tide
Come in to take me home
I get scared
Now I'm sitting here alone
Dreaming of the dolphin song
Oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo
Oo-oo-oo, oo
Ooo
Oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo
Oo-oo-oo, oo
Ooo
Maybe one day you'll understand
I don't want nothing from you but to sweetly hold your hand
Till that day, just
Please don't be so down
Don't make frowns
You silly clown
Just come and open up your folding chair next to me
My feet are buried in the sand
And there's a breeze
There's a shadow
You can't see my eyes
And the waves are just a wetter* version of the skies
There's a shadow
You can't see my eyes
There's a shadow
You can't see my eyes
[* "Wetter" is sometimes replaced by "frothier" in some live versions.]

Well...having listened to the Far version many times now, I actually have grown to like it. The very first time I heard the album version I was completely turned off when the additional instruments kicked in, but something happened, and now I think the Far version has a definite charm, and is becoming as catchy to me as the original live one. I say there's room for both!

I'll just add that it's almost always difficult to get used to a "new" version of a song when you've heard the original for so long -- years even, in this case. For example, I remember feeling the same way about the "newer' live version of Dance Anthem of the 80s with the faster tempo (which is what the album version most closely resembles -- and it rocks too!)

Anyone know what version she actually sings the line "And the waves are just a frothier version of the skies"?? I love this line, but haven't been able to find a version where she actually sings this.

Search folding chair on youtube and check out the third video result by "nightrocker". At the end Regina uses the word frothier.
There's also a couple of live versions available as MP3s on RespektOnline where she uses "frothier". Apparently she has only used the word in live performances.
