Hi everyone and welcome to another ProHD High-Definition video segment, but this time from a small, but very well known location in beautiful West Virginia... "Shenandoah Junction".

Today is June 18, 2011 and we are railfanning the CSX Cumberland Sub and the NS "H-Line" in situated in the quiet rural village of Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia with only days left before summer begins.

As I have previously documented areas in and around Pennsylvania, let me present yet another In a continuation of day trips from centered from Bethlehem, Pa.

The intent of these videos are to showcase extremely nice railfan locations that can be found not far from main roads for the most part in Pennsylvania and/or nearby surrounding states. In this segment, I've captured six trains & one meet in the course of covering two bisecting rail lines.

We start out in the mid morning hours near Ridge Road along the CSX Cumberland Sub on June 18, 2011. Although easy to find with a GPS or good map, this is a great location...!! Somewhat remote, and mostly hidden off the main road, this is a location I recommend any railfan visit one of these days...!!

The CSX Cumberland Sub in Shenandoah Jct. crosses at Ridge Road right in town. This location is home to a set of crossovers and prominent signals to the west of the crossing. Visiting railfan's will be treated to a very nice "S" curve to the east, and a great view to the west with beautiful scenery either way. The area is very setup friendly and offers many spots at or along the main line or near the grade crossings nearby to the west.

The NS "H"-Line Crosses over the CSX Cumberland Sub and although mostly covered by trees and brush, trains do make a quick appearance as they cross the bridge.

Lighting is predictable, and the activity is brisk all day.

First, we begin with an introduction video segment "Putting You There" scenic view from the south side of the CSX Cumberland Sub just east of the NS "H-Line Bridge.

Now the action...:

  • Nice video Steve. I hang out alot at Shenandoah Junction on Saturdays. You do have two train symbols wrong in your video. The southbound NS 277 is NS 228. The CSX Q241 might be actually CSX Q261. Once again, nice video.

  • @1986Buckster Thanks for the info. I kinda figured one or two might be wrong. There was a gentleman also raiilfanning and he supplied us the symbols. I'm not that keen on the CSX radio jargon as of yet. I did better when I was at Sandpatch. Nevertheless thanks for the comment. I'm going back there again in a couple months to do a sweep from the Jct. over to Point of Rocks. have a good week.. Steve..

  • I'm actually headed to cumberland over the july holiday, dad is saying the sandpatch grade is there, is shenandoah junction close to Cumberland?

    nick

  • @Darthsimpletext Good to hear you're possibly heading to Shenandoah, I hope you enjoy it. Cumberland is quite a bit west of Shenandoah Jct. Steve..

  • nice meet, you do take some fine video!

  • @mch257 Thanks... Pleasure was ours. Very nice location. Looking forward to heading back again sometime in July. Hope to get a bit more of the NS action this time round. Enjoy..Steve
