This movie, made in the USA, was the only American movie to show the truth about the Soviet Union, it takes as reference the testimony of Joseph Davies, former ambassador of the United States in the Soviet Union.
After his return to USA, he had to fight a dangerous enemy in his own home, the reactionaries which wanted US to aid the Axis. In this movie you will see many reactionary characters repeating cliches that you probably once listened.
This movie was later consored in USA.

  • Mannerheim was not in power in Finland to turn down anything at the time Stalin broke yet another treaty in 1939. Mannerheim came to power in 1944 to get Finland out of the war since he was one one of the few people Stalin had any respect for. Joe Davies - at best an idiot; at worst a traitor.

  • @ThaKINS

He came to power as State chief, however in 1939 he was the commander in chief of Finnish forces.

Joe Davies was never a traitor, but a man who held progressive views and probably would never support what USA became today!

  • Joseph Davies was either a communist, or what the Communists called a "useful idiot". He never visited the gulags, nor the Lubyanka prison in Moscow, nor did he take testimony form the 10 million Ukranian peasants whom he starved to death. If Davies really talked to Stalin as in the film, and came away with the impression he was a person of integrity who cared for people, then Davies was either lying or a fool.

Hahaha, tell me what kind of "man" could witness 10 million of people, imagine someone counting "4.358.305, 4.358.305, ...6" your logic is clearly absurd. Curiously, the Heart Press, which feeded the absurd myth of "millions of communist victims" had a curious witness of that, a man who never had been in Ukraine.

This kind of mythology serves to the same purporse of Middle Ages witch hunt.

Sources? Well, if Hitler gave him or not this title, that's irrelevant, but we all know that, as Professor Domenico Losurdo, from Italy, very well show us, the nazi often broadcasted "The betrayed Revolution" from radiostations in Eastern Prussia.

They where true. Trotsky was a zionist. Just as Rakovski Tuhachevsky and others.

Trotsky even lived on Broadway 120 prior he was sent into Russia. Just as he was a nazi collaborator - Hitler even gave him a "Honorary Aryan" title))))

  • The US and USSR could not be allies..different ideologies.

  • I say the US and Britain should have allied with Germany against the Soviet Union,

  • This film was a masterpiece of pro-Soviet propaganda at a time when Americans, with their meager sources or information, were skeptical. The film was investigated and condemned after the war. No wonder FDR gave away half of Europe to Stalin in the Yalta Pact. He must've watched his own propaganda.

  • The "truth" about the Soviet Union? Like saying that the trumped-up charges against the so-called Trotskyists, reputed by every major historian, were true?
