Waspy Pulp nonFiction #6 New Nest ガードレールに営巣するキボシアシナガバチ女王

This documentary series is video portraits about the life of Japanese paper wasp (Polistes nipponensis, family Vespidae). Another foundress (founding queen) was spotted on her nest underneath an overhang of the guardrail. She was reluctant to leave her nest, which consisted of 11 cells and some white eggs, during my inspection. Early-June 2008 in Japan.

定点観察中の場所（アシの葉裏）から全く離れた車道のガードレールで別個体のキボシアシナガバチ女王が営巣していました。波型にオーバーハングして雨が掛からない場所。前­面に茂ったススキの葉も目隠しになっている。金属面にパルプ製の巣柄がしっかり付いているのですが、どんな接着物質を使っているのだろう？
同定用にストロボを焚いて激写したら女王が歩いて巣から少しだけ離れた。こちらを警戒している様子だが飛び去りはしなかった。巣房を数えようとしたが良いアングルを確保で­きず（約11室で産卵済み）。これから巣房に繭の黄色いキャップが出来たら人目に付いて駆除されないか心配。道とは逆の面に営巣したらより安全だったろう（キボシアシナガ­バチにとって）。今後この巣も観察対象に加えます。
