  • please tell me they didnt allow you to use your loop sling

there's not a reason to shoot a round in the prone beyond a 100yds without a loop sling attached to your bicep

  • @Sturmmann

I only use slings for carrying rifles.

  • @Sturmmann

Im not a fan of using slings and theyre generally not allowed in service rifle competition anyway. Ive shot at 500m with good results just off my elbows. I no longer use the M14, I much prefer the L1A1 nowdays.

  • @mrporkpie

I highly doubt that slings arent allowed, it would make your rules look backward compared to what the rest of the world does

america is the most serious nation when it comes to rifle marksmanship and they allow slings to be used in all positions (in different ways)

not using a sling isnt being a tough guy, its just plain dumb

  • @Sturmmann

I dont really care what you do in america, I dont live there, I just know that in standard service class "target rifle" type loop slings are not allowed to be used in competition in New Zealand.

Im not trying to be a tough guy, I just dont like using slings when our courses of fire usually involve alot of movement and fast position changes while shooting against the clock somtimes against moving targets.

  • Guess the old timer didn't read his manual, lol

  • @mrporkpie this isnt true, all ranked service rifle competitions allow loop slings at the 300 and 600 yard line.

unless this was a unranked local shoot where they made their own rules...

  • Keep your finger off the trigger when you're manipulating your rifle esp when inserting a fresh mag!

  • @mrporkpie

youll be happy to find out that when you use a loop sling you minimize 80% of the sway

you'll be able to take aim on a target 600yds away with that sling on.

  • This was filmed at a very nice private range near Motunau on the coast of North Canterbury. Nice range, very open. The Police use it alot as well as the CHCH pistol club. Really nice on a nice day and really really nasty on a bad day!
