The world's largest Buddha carved from gem-quality jade unveliling ceremony Feb. 6, 2010 at Excondido's Phap Vuong Monastery. Called the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace, the final destination will be the Great Stupa http://www.stupa.org.au At 4 tons and nearly 9 feet high the Buddha was completed in 2008 after two years of carving in Thailand, from an 18 ton gem-quality dark-green translucent nephrite jade discovered in Canada called polar jade.
