beautiful movie.. but very different from the book.. also the dresses they are wearing dont match the fashions of the times described in the book.. jennifer ehle is the best lizzy in my opinion and colin firth the best darcy ... but jane in this movie is the prettiest :) also i like bingley more in this movie..

They re-used the costumes from Gone with the Wind

How does this scene have anything to do with Pride & Prejudice? It's not just that it doesn't happen in the book, it's the fact that Darcy & Lizzie seem to like each other just fine. I don't get it. I guess I should take out this movie, but I'm not sure I want to see a version that is so far from the book.

Thanks for the upload. This is an interesting version, but I just can't get past those ridiculous costumes. Gaaa! :-P

TOO AMERICAN. Gah.

This version is totally at odds with the novel. But, it's very charming. Something that would appeal to Americans of the epoch bent on a night out at the movies. The script, I believe, was written by Aldous Huxley.
Regarding the dresses, I think most of the costumes here were 'reused' from Gone with the Wind, hence, having the costumes ALL WRONG!

@Prilpril21
sorry, but this is wrong. costume design for gone with the wind was done by walter plunkett and the whole wardrobe belonged to selznick int. (until david selznick's death). the costumes here are designed by adrian and belonged to the mgm wardrobe department. in addition to this, the eras of both flms are completely different ones; gone with the wind covers the american fashions around the civil war (1860s) while this movie shows the fashions from the 1830s

@hedwigkiesler I know it is wrong. I don't care, though. IT's a lovely movie in itself, despite the wrong costumes...

@Prilpril21 totally agree ;)
this is the best adaption of them all! best direction, best casting and the best acting by a mile. after having seen greer garson as lizzie, jennifer ehle seems so pale and meaningless...and keira knightley was just the worst choice ever!

@hedwigkiesler I'm glad you feel that way. Yes, Greer Garson is such a beauty. :D And even though she's actually 36 yrs old in this role, she's still my favorite Elizabeth Bennett! :D
