Realistic Illumination in Augmented Reality Application with Image-based Lighting. The Illumination of the surrounding is captured by a video camera from a mirrored sphere. Based on this image, two cubemap are calculated. One for diffuse illumination and one for specular illumination.
The application is used for a AR-based Design Review of car models.

  • well done

  • The diffuse lights are nice, but the specs are too strong, so its looking like a mirror. Maybe the surface normals of the car should be a bit noisier.

How near to the scene must the mirror-sphere be, to keep the look realistic ?

Is is possible to throw shadows in the tracked scene (the table is a flat plane, it would help to visually keep track of the distance from the car to the surface)
