This is our red roan stallion who is currently in cutting training, he got to come home today for his branding!
He goes back to the trainer tomorrow.
As you can see I have already preped the area for branding, meaning I clipped it and cleaned it-DO NOT USE WATER!-

I have been branding for several years now, I find on the roan horses 9 sec is ideal for a white brand which I think looks great on the not so white roans. If you want a bald brand from freezing hold it their for 12 sec. Same goes for a gray which we also have on here(YouTube)

and I find on the gray horses 12 sec is ideal for a bald brand which I recommend on a gray or double dilute, the reason being on the grays is all grays eventually gray out to white resulting in white all over and thats not good if the brand is white. Double Dilute aka cremello, perlino, smoky cream all are light in color and some are lighter than others, with the white hairs from the brand it is hard to see it from a distance where as a bald one stands out on that color.

I like the white hairs personaly on the dark horses and with that said on a dark horse like bay,chestnut,sorrel,buckskin,etc.. I would hold 7 to 8 sec. It doesn't take long at all. So far all my brands have turned out nicely. Even the bald ones on the grays and double dilutes.

  • that looks kinda cruel..?

  • @caitlyndeon18 nah not at all cruel. What would be cruel is if someone stole the horse and abused it or neglected it. Branding helps them stay somewhat safe.

  • doesnt it hurt a horse to brand them??? thast what i heard and am just wondering

  • @westernhorserider88 It is miniamal pain, after a few seconds the spot goes numb due to the extrem cold of the liquid nitrogen.

  • hi i have a bad marked coulord standerdbread is ther any way i can make it better marked with freez marking

  • @bradford999trotting If you have alot of white in the area you plan to brand I suggest a bald brand. They stand out on white and pale real good.

  • does branding hurt a horse?

  • does it hurt a horse to brand them?

  • doesnt it harm a horse to brand them?

  • THANK YOU! this or ear tags are the only way people should go. Hot Iron branding is just plain sadistic now that we have other methods of identifying live stock and horses.
