I don't think the advisors could actually see the fireball coming at them... it was added in post production. Did someone say 'girls!' in a scared voice when it appeared?

Yeah a mix of both would have been a good idea....

The fireball coming towards the camera in the spyglass moments is a good idea, but... it means that it is in place of Lord Fears turn and evil stare at the camera, which I preferred a lot more.
