Politicians in the UK are calling for calm after eight straight days of rioting in northern Ireland's capital Belfast. Crowds of UK loyalists turned violent after it was suggested the union flag might not be flown over Belfast's main civic building. The politician who suggested it had death threats as a result. Al Jazeera's Laurence Lee reports from London

Just because you are catholic that doesnt mean you want independence.
Northern Ireland receives more money than it gives to the Federal government. Most people actually want to be part of the Union, same goes for Scotland. Its only a minority with a big voice that say otherwise.

Less than half of Northern Ireland's CATHOLICS want to leave the UK according to the latest opinion polls.
Even if they ever gained a majority it still wouldn't bring about a single Irish state covering the whole island. There's more chance of the bankrupt Republic of Ireland asking to rejoin the UK...

Why wont people who call themselves Brittish accept that this hole thing in Northern Ireland is not our fault. We didn`t ask to be invaded, abused, chased and starved out of our own country. We don`t hate the Protestants we just hate the Orange Order because they really are Sectarian Biggots. And im no Catholic by the way, i don`t know if a Source Of All Creation exists or not.

Bars were selling 'London bomber' shots for $10 with $9 going to Ireland, and Sinn Fein spent half their time over there.. It was VERY open.

Not so open... I thought it was more a case of 'charity for ireland' ie: the people donating thought it was to help the poor in ireland and help against the oppression by britain etc etc - don't think they said 'we're raising money to bomb innocent people in british cities, please donate' - wasn't as simple as you say ;)

erm, no it's not. It is well known that the funding for the IRA came from the Irish community in Boston and New York - not from the republic of Ireland.
They were doing it quite openly at the time.
