The BJP, which is struggling to keep its alliance with the Sena, more so after Pramod Mahajan's death, needs somebody like Modi, a popular leader who enjoys national appeal.

It was very cheap from Modi to talk against Sharad Pawar and Vilasrao. He should see Western Maharashtra and how much Mr. Pawar has delivered for that region over the years. With sugar lobby, roads, development etc. In Maharashtra, its majorly give and take. If you don't deliver here, voters don't vote for u. Its not like other states where you can boast and people will fall prey. yes some do, but that portion is not significant.

Modi has no presence in Maharashtra. His anti-congress remarks on Sharad Pawar and Vilasrao Deshmukh; both the Maratha strongmen created negative impact on the poll and it hurt maratha (not Marathi, read Maratha...means kshatriya samaz among Maharashtrians) sentiments. Politics in Maharashtra is very different and outside politicians create no impact on local voters. Modi should have stayed away from Maharashtra. I am a BJP supporter, but Modi's speeches cost SS-BJP dearly in the elections.
